এই ঘটনার আগে, গত ১৯ ডিসেম্বর তেজগাঁও স্টেশনে মোহনগঞ্জ এক্সপ্রেসে আগুন দেয়া হয়েছিল, যাতে ট্রেনটির তিনটি বগি পুরোপুরি পুড়ে যায়। পরবর্তীতে একটি বগি থেকে মা ও শিশুসহ চারজনের লাশ উদ্ধার করা হয়।
আগুনের এই ঘটনায় দগ্ধ হয়েছেন হাসিব (৩০) নামের এক ব্যক্তি, যিনি শেখ হাসিনা জাতীয় বার্ন ও প্লাস্টিক সার্জারি ইনস্টিটিউটে ভর্তি করা হয়েছেন। তার শরীরের আট শতাংশ পুড়ে গেছে বলে চিকিৎসকেরা জানিয়েছেন।
