আজ বিশ্ব শরণার্থী দিবস। প্রতিবছর যথাযথ মর্যাদায় দিবসটি পালিত হয়ে আসছে। বাংলাদেশে ২০০১ সালের ২০ জুন থেকে এ দিবসটি পালন করে বাঙালিরা। ‘সাহসের সাথে সবাই মিলে’ এই প্রতিপাদ্যকে ধারণ করে প্রত্যেক জাতিকেই এদের পাশে এসে দাঁড়ানর আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা।
সকালে রাজধানীর সেগুনবাগিচার মুক্তিযুদ্ধ জাদুঘর মিলনায়তনে বিশ্ব শরণার্থী দিবসের আলোচনা সভায় বাংলাদেশস্থ জাতিসংঘের উদ্বাস্তু বিষয়ক হাই কমিশনের অ্যাসিস্টেন্ট প্রটেকশন অফিসার ফাহমিদা করিম বলেছেন, ‘বিশ্বে এখনও ৫ কোটি শরণার্থী রয়েছে এবং প্রত্যেক দেশেরই এদের পাশে দাঁড়ানো উচিৎ।’
তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘বিশ্বে প্রতিদিন ১ হাজার শরণার্থী এখনও আশ্রয় খুঁজছে।’
