অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার বাংলাদেশ ছাত্রলীগকে নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে। আজ বুধবার স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের প্রজ্ঞাপনে এই সিদ্ধান্ত জানানো হয়। এতে বলা হয়েছে, ছাত্রলীগ বিগত ১৫ বছর ধরে নানা ধরনের অপরাধমূলক কর্মকাণ্ডে জড়িত ছিল, যা জননিরাপত্তার জন্য হুমকি হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে।
সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়, বিশেষ করে স্বৈরাচারী শাসনামলে ছাত্রলীগ হত্যা, নির্যাতন, সিট বাণিজ্য, ধর্ষণসহ নানা অপরাধমূলক কাজে জড়িত ছিল। এসব কার্যকলাপের কারণে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। এর আগে বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলন ও নাগরিক কমিটি ছাত্রলীগকে নিষিদ্ধ করার দাবিতে আন্দোলন চালিয়ে আসছিল।
প্রজ্ঞাপনে আরও বলা হয়, ছাত্রলীগের নেতাকর্মীরা চলমান বৈষম্যবিরোধী আন্দোলনের সময় উন্মত্তভাবে সশস্ত্র আক্রমণ চালিয়ে বহু সাধারণ জনগণকে হত্যা করেছে এবং আরও অনেককে গুরুতর আহত করেছে। এসব সহিংসতার প্রমাণ দেশের বিভিন্ন গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে এবং আদালতেও এর প্রমাণ মিলেছে।
প্রজ্ঞাপনে সরকারের কাছে প্রাপ্ত তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে আরও উল্লেখ করা হয়, আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের পতনের পরেও ছাত্রলীগ ধ্বংসাত্মক এবং ষড়যন্ত্রমূলক কর্মকাণ্ডে জড়িত ছিল। এসবের কারণে ছাত্রলীগকে সন্ত্রাসবিরোধী আইন অনুযায়ী নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়েছে।
অবশেষে, সরকার ‘সন্ত্রাসবিরোধী আইন, ২০০৯’-এর ক্ষমতাবলে বাংলাদেশ ছাত্রলীগকে নিষিদ্ধ করে এবং এই আইন অনুযায়ী সংগঠনটিকে সন্ত্রাসী সত্তা হিসেবে তালিকাভুক্ত করেছে।
